- Chris Bosh flew to New York on Thursday and is listed in the starting lineup after the birth of his son, Jackson, at 3 a.m. “He’s on his way right now,” Erik Spoelstra said at about 5:20 p.m. “He’s very excited and while he may not be quite rested right now, he’s very excited.’
- Knicks interim coach Mike Woodson opted to go with a small lineup of Baron Davis, Landry Fields, Steve Novak, Carmelo Anthony and Tyson Chandler.
- Amar’e Stoudemire is out for the Knicks with a lacerated hand after his battle with a fire extinguisher following the Game 2 loss in Miami. He said there’s a “great chance” he would play in Game 4 on Sunday at Madison Square Garden. “I think that’s going to be a doctor’s decision there,” Woodson said.
- Spoelstra said Stoudemire’s absence wouldn’t alter Miami’s defense in Game 3. “No, we’re going to try to get more to our identity and what we do and not have those six or seven breakdowns that we had in Game 2,” he said.
- Knicks guard Jeremy Lin, out since March 24 with a torn left ACL and meniscus for which he had surgery on April 2, played 3-on-3 at the end of practice Wednesday. He told the media Thursday that Game 5 might be the earliest he could return. “We just gotta wait it out and see where we are with it,” Woodson said The Knicks have lost their last 12 playoff games dating to April 29, 2001 and would set a new record of 13 with a loss here tonight. The Lakers have won 102 playoff games since the Knicks’ last postseason win. “Sure, it’s an incentive,” Woodson said Wednesday. “I’m not one for excuses, but this team hasn’t been together that long. Tyson [Chandler]’s first year in, short season, no camp. There are a lot of things that are at stake here. Expectations are high.”
